Peter Wu, MD

Peter Wu, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in the medical and surgical treatment of the cornea and anterior segment including corneal transplants, complex cataract surgery, and laser refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK). Dr. Wu grew up in Dallas, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in electrical engineering. After a few years working as an engineer, he realized that he loved the human interaction and relationships in medicine. Dr. Wu subsequently received his medical degree from Texas Tech University and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society.

During medical school, Dr. Wu was drawn to the intricacies of the human eye and the restorative properties of ophthalmic surgery. He went on to complete his ophthalmology training at the University of California, Davis, where he was chief resident. Dr. Wu’s clinical and surgical interests in corneal transplants and refractive surgery led him to a cornea fellowship at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In Chicago, he trained with Dr. Joel Sugar, who is considered one of the world’s preeminent cornea specialists, and Dr. Dimitri Azar, who is considered one of the pioneers of laser refractive surgery. During his fellowship, Dr. Wu taught residents cataract surgery and was voted as “Fellow of the Year”.

Upon completion of his fellowship, Dr. Wu returned to Sacramento where he has fallen in love with the people and the beauty of the region. Prior to joining Sacramento Eye Consultants, Dr. Wu was a cornea specialist at Kaiser Permanente and was also the Director of the Kaiser Laser Vision Correction Program. Dr. Wu was also the Team Ophthalmologist for the Sacramento Kings from 2016 to 2022. He has been consistently voted by his peers as one of Sacramento’s “Top Docs”.

In his free time, Dr. Wu enjoys traveling, listening to live music, collecting vinyl records, and spending time with his wife and two children. At Sacramento Eye Consultants, Dr. Wu looks forward to providing you with the most effective and advanced treatments available in ophthalmology.
